“You’d like us to be intimate then?” Geralt inquired earnestly. Jaskier nearly choked on his spit.

    “We’re married, aren’t we?”

“Plenty of married couples would rather clean gutters than see each other bare. And you have that tavern girl of yours, from the village-- hush, that’s not an admonishment. I just assumed you’d been… put up for auction, when a groom was requested in the place of a bride. That you had no earnest, physical interest in men. Or if you did, that I was out of your age bracket. Which is acceptable. I have less than no interest in traumatizing you, or anyone, with my attentions.”

It was beginning to sink in for Jaskier that maybe, just maybe, he had in fact been joined in holy matrimony with a perfectly lovely man.

    Summary

Jaskier made a deal with a witch in exchange for eternal youth. He didn’t mind paying the price at the time, but if he ever wants to break the curse he must find “true love”. In other words, someone who loves him for the person he is. He’ll never want to undo such a gift, so it really doesn’t bother him that the curse goes unbroken for decades. No, it doesn’t bother him at all.

“Who are you wearing?” Geralt asked, as the Bard followed him out of Posada.

“Oh,” Jaskier laughed. “You noticed, did you? Just as expected from a Witcher.” He smoothed the collar of his tunic. “I believe he was a Viscount or somesuch near Lettenhove … long dead now, though I have no great interest in traveling back there. Wouldn’t want to give some poor kid a scare, seeing the face of his long-dead relative.”

“Hm,” Geralt said. It didn’t worry him that the doppler would make mischief, as he seemed well-intentioned enough. The bigger mystery was still why he chose to follow Geralt.

“I’ve been wearing him so long, sometimes I forget that I’m not human,” Jaskier said cheerfully, his fingers tapping on his lute. “Then a pretty noblewoman strokes my face with her fingers full of silver rings and … hooboy. That was not a good night.”

“I’m sorry,” Jaskier says, “but I must have misheard you. ‘Three times’? Geralt, you’re not a man. You’re a-”

“Shut up,” Geralt says. “I shouldn’t have told you.”

“The worst thing of all,” Jaskier says, either having gone deaf or choosing to ignore Geralt completely, “is that you’ve never really tried. That this is total hearsay. Gods, it could be more than three. You could go all night.”

“If you keep on,” Geralt says, “You’ll never find out."

(or: Witchers don't have refractory periods, and Jaskier is keen to investigate.)

The potions made him roil. Made him seethe.

The first time Jaskier saw him like this, Geralt expected him to run.

    He didn’t.
