Phillip J Coulson is a quietly competent Bad Ass Motherf*cker, so it's not often Clint has to come to his rescue. Phillip J Coulson is also a self-sacrificing asshole who doesn't think twice about putting himself in harm's way to save others which both concerns and pisses Clint off (although part of him will always love him for it anyway).
Apparently, today is one of those days where Senior Agent Phillip J Coulson, Nick Fury's one good eye, walks the fine line between BAMF and asshole. Yippee Ki Yay, Motherfucker!

Phil is an ex-Army Ranger and The Dog Soldier who doesn’t think he’s good enough for Clint, the love of his life; Clint is a photographer and thedogblogger, who doesn’t believe Phil could ever feel the same way about him as he feels about the older man. Over time they realise just how much they mean to each other. Agent, the wire-haired pointing Griffon and Phil’s service dog, takes it all in her stride as usual.

This is how I die, Phil thought, frozen in place. Of embarrassment in front of Iron Man, Black Widow, and Captain America. And Hawkeye’s dog.
“Captain Catmerica,” Steve read out, a puzzled look on his face. His gaze jumped between Phil and the offending cat tag, and Phil didn’t have to look at Tony’s face to know it was filled with glee.
“I knew it,” Tony said, snatching the tag out of Steve’s hand.
“I didn’t name her that,” Phil said, his words weak even to his ears as he sunk down onto the couch.
A cat adopts Phil. She’s smarter than he is.
