    Summary

“It’s okay, Mr. Stark,” Peter whispers hoarsely. “You can... you can let go. It’s okay.”

     Oh, Peter. Oh, kid, no.

     -

Like everything else, it starts with a simple mission gone wrong.

Unlike everything else, it ends with Peter watching as Mr. Stark slowly dies in his arms.

    Summary

“Peter Parker,” Cindy says. Peter’s head snaps up so fast that it almost looks inhuman. “Did Tony Stark just waltz in and pick up his child in the background of your Zoom call?”

Peter freezes. Wide-eyed, with ‘guilty’ written on his forehead in 72, bold, Times New Roman font. It takes a solid thirty seconds before he can put himself together enough to click the unmute button.

“I—no?” Peter says. His voice is startlingly high pitched and his expression is nothing short of horrified.

Damn, if that isn’t anything but a confession.

Or: a day in the life of the quarantined high school spider-kid, as seen through the eyes of his first-period chemistry class.

    Summary

Minutes tick away, and by the time Tony finishes the three emails Pepper had copied him into, Peter is a snoring ball in his lap. Shutting his laptop, he carefully leans forward to place it on the coffee table, drawing back with the forgotten can of root beer in his hands. Peter prefers his sodas flat when he drinks them—probably because he’s weird and has no sense of taste—so Tony pops the tab open with a soft hiss and settles it on the side table.

Tipping his head back on the couch, he lowers his fingers to run absentminded tracks through Peter’s curls.

He’s my weird kid, though, he thinks with a smile, already drifting into sleep himself.

    Summary

Peter hums as if in deep thought. The blood on his face is bright and unrelenting in the glow of the fire, like some permanent reminder of Tony's failures. “Did you know my parents died in a plane crash?”

Tony jolts, the response hitting him like a freight train. He rubs Peter’s arm as his throat tightens. “Yeah. Yeah, I know.”

    “They must’ve been really scared.”

    “Are you scared Peter?”

    ---

Or, on their way home from a fancy conference on the coast of Vancouver, Tony and Peter's helicopter crashes, ending what should have been a perfect weekend filled with maple ice cream and sea water in a desperate battle for survival.

    Summary

“You have got to stop eavesdropping, Mo. Someday, you’re gonna overhear something you’re gonna wish you didn’t,” Peter says tiredly, Morgan going to say something further only for Peter’s back to straighten - his body tense as he glances around.

Whatever argument that Morgan has immediately falls away, recognizing that look from a lifetime of being surrounded by literal superheroes as she asks, “What’s wrong?”

He doesn’t get the chance to answer, the sounds of something like fireworks popping off as he throw himself over her - pushing her down to the ground so hard that her head snaps against the pavement.

“Ow,” Morgan mutters, dizzy and a little out of breath from how heavy Peter is only for a swell of panic to rush through her when she realizes Peter isn’t moving.

    “Peter?”
