People always say they can feel anxiety creeping up their chest.
Owen has no clue what they’re going on about. His anxiety has never creeped. It’s never crawled. It’s never moved slowly in its life.
It’s taken him by the lungs before. It’s grasped them so tightly and so suddenly he thought they might burst. He’s choked on it as it shot down his throat and into the pit of his stomach like a foreign substance his body should reject.
But never has it creeped.

“I’m afraid I don’t have a different answer for you,” Seb said apologetically. “This is the Underworld. The Promised Land. The Nethersphere. Aka: where you go when you die.”

The Master is different. He has had more chances that anybody else will ever be given, but still the Doctor forgives him. Completely. It’s partly because forgiving those who don’t deserve it is what he does, and partly because he assumed that without his forgiveness the Master would never get better. And he needs the Master to get better. It occurs to him now, for the first time, that the perhaps the Master doesn’t need his forgiveness. And that, perhaps, he actually deserves to be forgiven.
