Summary
Essek was hard at work copying over runes when the message came through.
“I am running late,” Bren Ermendrud’s voice rang in his head. “I will be by shortly. I hope you are ready for me.”
Essek sat up abruptly, his eyes wide. He’d lost track of the days. He flipped through the calendar in his head, trying to transpose it onto his mind-numbing week. That was tonight?! He’d set up a…rendezvous…with Ermendrud for that evening?

Summary
“I’m getting married,” said Essek. “Although it is customary for all the senior members of my Den to be present, it was decided that it would be…unwise…to reveal my situation to the Umavi.”
Verin gave a snort. Their mother would have immediately turned Essek over to the Bright Queen and they both knew it.
“There is only one member of my Den who I trust enough to invite,” Essek continued, and Verin blinked in surprise. Who was that? Wait…
“Me?” he said incredulously. “You trust me?”

Summary
“We have not only been transported into these different bodies, into this part of the Empire,” Caleb continued. “Oskar and Guinevere are also...the characters in a novel.”
Essek blinked at him. “A novel,” he repeated. “Might I ask what the, er, genre of this novel would be?”
Caleb winced. Bit his lip. “Trashy smut,” he replied.
Essek dropped his head into his hands. “I don’t suppose you will tell me that the woman you currently embody meets up with a human from the Empire.”
Caleb gave a laugh that held anything but mirth. “Oh, my friend, no. She falls in love with Oskar the half-orc. It is, after all, called Tusk Love.”

Summary
“I think it’s ok,” Opal continued. “She’s in my head, but she mostly seems annoyed at me. She called me off-putting.” She seemed comforted by this fact, as though the spider queen’s distaste could save her from the dark fate of becoming her Champion. Perhaps it could. Orym knew little of gods and magic, other than the bit he’d learnt at Keyleth’s side.

Summary
Poska regards her for a long moment. Takes a long, long drink of her whiskey, draining the glass. “You have a lot of nerve, coming here.”
“I know,” says Fearne. Those earnest eyes feel like they can read something in Poska’s deepest soul; Poska utterly hates how much she wants to be known.

Summary
The ringing note of a concert A is played by the oboe, echoing on its own in the space. It’s picked up by the wind section, followed rapidly by the brass, and the familiar feeling of an orchestra calibrating takes over Caleb. The tonal adjustments as each person brings their instrument into alignment sinks into him and something inside Caleb shifts in recognition as Essek leads the strings into their own tuning.
It’s like something is waking up, like something unfurling and firing across long-unused paths of memory. His hands shake slightly, as he raises his bow and joins them, fingers fumbling against the pegs and fine tuners that give him control over his instrument.

Essek Thelyss is a leading violinist, his spot as Shadowhand of the Rosohna Philharmonic Orchestra has been uncontested for over a decade. Caleb Widogast is a recent arrival to the city, convinced by his friends to audition for one of the vacant violinist positions.
After starting off on the wrong foot, Caleb and Essek get to slowly know each other, discover what brings them joy, create while defying expectations, and find out that what they can produce together may just be better than anything they can do separately.

This is such a wonderful and imaginative AU - the relationship between Essek and Caleb is already so charged and interesting, the interactions with the M9 are comedic gold, and the details make me miss my own days of studying music. Very excited to see where this takes us!

The Kryn Dynasty and the Cerberus Assembly both suspect there is information in the ruins of Aeor that could cause civil war among the dens. The Dynasty would like to make it disappear. The Assembly wants nothing more than to get their hands on it.
Vurmus Outpost researchers are slowly disappearing, and Essek Thelyss is not believed as dead as he would like.
He's already sacrificed everything else—all that's left to save his own skin is to shed it.
(Essek uses the Transmogrification spell to disappear, and finds a tentative home in hiding as the long lost son of the Ruby of the Sea.)

Megs has done it again, this fic has everything - Lavorre family feels, identity crises, extravagant outfits and fancy parties, a shadowgast dynamic that's simply [chef's kiss], ESSEK AND VETH BECOMING FRIENDS, and more! This is such an imaginative and fun look at how things could play out post-canon, highly recommend.

Summary
“I would like you to know me,” Caleb says.
It feels like a secret. Like the darkest part of him cracked open; all his months and years of hiding, of wrapping his arms and scratching the bindings, of not loving, not loving anything but an unkillable cat — it’s unraveling around him. He feels naked. He feels the way he did the first time Pumat Sol spelled him clean.
“I find that — I would like you to know me,” he says, again.

This is incredible post-series shadowgast and possibly the fic I’ve been waiting for since ep 141. Achingly tender, beautifully written, and filled with so many emotions that I had to put my kindle down several times just to FEEL. What a treat this story is!

Summary
There is something incredibly flattering about the thought that one of the most gifted mages Caleb has ever known has found one of Caleb’s own spells worth figuring out for himself.
Essek turns from the arcane doorway shimmering in blues and violets before him with the smug appearance of the cat that got the cream. “I did some noodling, as you call it.”
“So you did,” Caleb says faintly.

An incredible show of vulnerability and love. Beautiful from start to finish, with delightful details and so much tenderness. Also features Essek with eyeliner and dimples.

This canon divergence series is inspired, the connections Essek makes with the rest of the Nein are delightful, and seeing the early Nein try to gel with him in their midst is great. Highly recommend!
