    “Well,” Ave drawled. “I’m just sayin’ that if Pete’s Spidey, then we need to give him time and space to tell us that. It should be his decision. But, in the meantime, maybe we can ask around some of his people to send him an appropriate ‘thank you’ gift, so you know, he knows he’s loved.”

    That…was a remarkably thoughtful idea.

    “Aw thanks, I got it from my brain,” Ave said.

    “How do we do that, though?” Leo asked. “What’re we supposed to do, just waltz on up to a copycat and be like ‘hey, I’m your boss’s coworker, does he like Emmental or Brie better?”

    Ave sniffed.

    “Why not?” she asked.

    (Peter's fellow lab managers figure out that he's Spiderman after he saves their lives in an incident at Stark Industries. They try to figure out how to say thank you without blowing his cover and ruining their friendship.)

    He rubbed forcefully at his eyes, thinking that it was some sort of hallucination brought on by too much caffeine and not enough sleep, but when Alex dropped his hands, the kid was still there.

    He had to say something. He couldn’t just not say anything.

    “Uh, c-can I help you?”

    The kid nearly jumped out of his skin, smacking his head on the shelf above him in surprise. He whirled around to find the source of the sound, and Alex was met with the biggest deep brown doe eyes he’d ever seen in his life.

    “Jesus, sneak up on a guy next time, why don’t you?” the kid hissed, placing a hand over his heart dramatically.

    “Sorry. I-“ Alex stopped himself.

    Why was he apologizing? He was the adult here.

    Alex and the other R&D interns meet the whirlwind that is Peter Parker, and they learn something about him that they honestly probably should have noticed sooner.

    Alex just wants one normal day in his life.

    Mary’s dead. Sherlock should have prevented her death, should have stopped her from taking a bullet for him. He as good as killed her, and now John hated him. Overwhelming guilt and loss led Sherlock into a dark spiral.

     

    He clutched at his head as he remembered how it used to be. Coming home with John after cases, laughing in the cabs, talking in front of a fire. Now he had no one. A long walk home, in the chilly drizzle. An empty flat. No fire, no laughter, no talking. Just him, alone. The same way it had been since John got married. Really, since he had faked his death, but he and John and Mary used to sit up late and talk, which, while not ideal, was better than what he was left with now.

    A strangled scream tore its way out of his throat. He could have stopped Mary’s death. Your fault.
