He said, “aren’t Tuques only Canadian hats?”

His enemy, maybe in his twenties, shrugged and looked at his hat with open misery. “Yeah but puns are really important to me in crisis situations.”

    Hunter almost paused, “...puns?”

    “Wool, that was anticlimatic.”

Hunter put the gun on the nearest table, deciding not to use it as a throwable weapon. “Jesus.”

The other scoffed, looking visibly upset. “Oi! Fuck ewe.”

Okay, this kid had to die.

    Summary

Alex Rider has just turned eighteen, and his prospects are bleaker than ever. Any moral dilemma floating about in MI6's mind about coercing a child into spying for Queen and country would now be gone, and his life would officially be stamped over to them.

When confronted by a dead man, Alex feels the first stirrings of something truly dangerous in his heart: hope. But will that hope be enough, or is Alex truly lost?

    Excerpt:

“Hello little one, it is good to have you back in the land of the living,” Yassen spoke in his characteristic soft tone. He tilted his head, breaking eye contact to sweep his eyes over the younger man’s form and checking for any obvious injuries.

Alex just snorted, saying, “That’s rich, coming from a dead man.”

He closed his eyes again, tilting his head back against the unpleasantly damp wall behind him. He wasn’t surprised that the drug made him lose his careful yet tenuous grip on reality, nor was he all that shocked that the first person he would conjure up for comfort was the assassin.
