Little Guy didn’t seem to care too much about the crack in Juno’s voice or the nervous twitching of his hands or the way his shoulders caved in, as if in curling a few more bones against his chest cavity, he might be able to do something to protect the tattered organ within. When the bunny hopped forward a few more times, splashing merrily until he was close enough to lay his chin on Juno’s knee and blink up at him expectantly, Juno managed a bitter laugh and shook his head.
“I dunno what the hell I expected,” Juno sighed, a weary, mirthless laugh dragging on his words like the frayed ends of a rope. “You’re just in it for the sandwich. Course you’re just in it for the sandwich.”

Summary
Juno spent a lot of time regretting his past choices, from piercings he and Mick got after losing a bet to Sasha to the kind of things that kept him up at night. If he was being honest with himself, he hadn’t really expected today to bring any more. The crew’s outing to a local fair on a nearby planet was meant to be a brief and relaxing getaway without much time or space for things to go wrong.
Hindsight was the kind of vision that was clearest from the top of an unmoving ferris wheel.

Summary
Juno Steel was decidedly not emptying his life savings to know anything more than he had to about violin music. The asshole in the practice room a floor above seemed to have different intentions for him.
As far as Juno cared, a piano meant an instrument he could kind of play Chopsticks on, a bow was a shitty decoration for the back of a dress, and a forte was a certain skill. That last definition was one he had to forcibly relearn. It seemed a forte was less of a particular strength and more of the reason he was awake at four in the goddamn morning.

There were a thousand quiet ways to say I love you, from a silent nod to a passing squeeze of hands to the fact that on bad days, Buddy would always make Rangian tea, even if it was acidic and low quality and threatened to give Vespa a hernia every time she took a sip. Maybe it wasn’t the good stuff Sikuliaq kept around, but that didn’t particularly matter to Vespa. At the end of the day, it had notes of familiarity and nostalgia and home. Vespa was fairly sure she loved that tea in the same way she loved Buddy Aurinko.

Juno didn’t see why he would bother with a crammed, freezing corner of a museum that had been delegated for a ten foot block of ice encasing an emerald that frankly, didn’t seem to be worth the trouble. It wasn’t the most glamorous of jobs, but on the other hand, the billionaire had left a gloating ad in the newspaper and was almost certain to buy another if the Nameless Thief didn’t show up. By Juno’s estimation, it was about a fifty-fifty shot of him coming at all.
They weren’t his favorite odds in the world, but they were loose enough that once evening crept closer and the hall began to empty, Juno allowed his eyes to wander, and subsequently, land on Peter Ransom.

Summary
