Summary
At nine years old, when his mother started talking about arranging Sid’s marriage, he hadn’t thought too much about it. She would find him someone in one of the Maritime Provinces, maybe Quebec. If really pressed, Sid might have imagined going to one of the Prairie Provinces, or maybe somewhere in the United Kingdoms of America. He never thought about being far away his family, because it literally never occurred to him that it might be something that could happen.

Summary
Sidney always knew his family would pick who he ended up with. It was how things were done, and no matter what the outside world thought, he'd never questioned it before because it was just the reality: ice was frozen, getting checked against the boards knocked the wind out of you, one day Sid would be matched to someone his parents and the matchmaker and his aunts and uncles and his community thought was the best fit for him. And best of all, Sidney wouldn't have to worry about it. He would just focus on hockey. He'd deal with it one day. Eventually.
'One day' had seemed so much farther away when he was younger.

Bookmarker's Notes
absolutely unique!! the religious tones vs sexual desire was *chefs kiss* highly recommend and just a note the author says the orthodoxy in this fic is not based on any actual religion (tho maybe leans toward paganism??) which might've been helpful for me to know going into this bc i truly was kind of like wtf???? but i thankfully kept reading

Which means that Sidney’s soulmate is hockey. Or maybe it’s goal-scoring, or pucks, or something equally ridiculous. The point is that he knows now it isn’t a person, and... well.
