“Excuse me, Patterson?” A nurse's voice broke Ruben out of the nap he’d slipped into, and he jerked up from where he was slumped against one of the waiting room chairs.
“Yes?” He asked, not quite able to keep the hope out of his voice.
“Mr… Uh, ‘Shark’—? ” She said in confusion, her eyes trained down on a clipboard as she shuffled through papers. “Can see you now… But keep in mind, he’s in recovery.”
None of them had actually known his real name when they admitted him, and apparently the guy just didn’t carry any ID on him… probably wise, since they were stepping into an illegal fighting ring and all.
“I understand.” Ruben replied agreeably, following the nurse out of the waiting room and down a corridor. She turned to a door and opened it slowly, ushering him in. Shark was hooked up to an IV, with a pale green hospital gown covering his broad shoulders and a scowl etched onto his face.
He didn’t look any happier once he saw Ruben enter the room.
“Oh great, it’s the pretty boy.”
