Summary
In order to conduct any business on Earth, all trolls must possess at least a bachelor's degree in cross-species diplomacy. In order to get a degree in cross-species diplomacy, trolls are required to "foster" a human for one year. This is already a daunting task, but, in exchange for the right to study, all selected human fosters are also the recipients of genetically designed superpowers.
One troll gets a partner with whom she immediately finds common ground. Another gets a partner he can barely communicate with.
This is their guide to dealing with humans, written by trolls whose only interactions with mammalian lifeforms has been in strictly academic settings.

Summary
Five years ago, after the two-decades-long war between the empires of Skaia and Alternia ended, the world began to rebuild. As the governments quarrel between one another, former members of opposing military forces begin to mingle. People move, seeking jobs in a war-torn world. Karkat Vantas, a former member of the Alternian forces, leaves behind the blighted ruins of his home kingdom. He seeks employment in the newly renamed Armistice City, the capital of Skaia. It is here that he finds unlikely companionship.
After being severely injured in battle, Dave Strider, once a respected Brigadier General of Skaia, begins anew. Surrounded by a network of supportive friends and found family, he does his best to leave behind his violent past. Working as a journalist and writer, he ends up taking on a new assignment. He is to interview veterans and collect their stories, Alternian and Skaian alike.
In the ideal world, grudges can be forgotten and mistakes of the past can be amended. No world, however, is utopia.

When a string of grisly murders shakes the gilded ivory towers of the cosmopolitan city of Skaia, the world takes notice. The case is handed to the capable and proven Crow's Eye firm, run by Dave Strider and Rose Lalonde. When the very same crime spree is revealed to be the sins of a race of genetically altered humans, known colloquially as werewolves, the duties of behavioral analysis fall upon an unknown, lone wolf, Karkat Vantas.

In the capital of Skaia, one group—the Skaia 4413, known as the S4413—reigns as the most popular artistic collective. Their work is well known, the members are high on the city's law enforcement list of wanted criminals, and their boldness is unmatched. It's all fun and games with a side of underground sponsorship until a new group shows up and starts tagging over damned near everything.

Summary

When they are forced to work on an English project together Karkat finds out that the exchange student is nothing like he’d thought he’d be.
