“To the man God: O Great One, I have been sorely tried by my enemies and have been blasphemed and lied against. My good thoughts and my honest actions have been turned to bad actions and dishonest ideas. My home has been disrespected, my children have been cursed and ill-treated. My dear ones have been backbitten and their virtue questioned. O Man God, I beg that this I ask for my enemies shall come to pass…” - Curse-prayer, collected by Zora Neale Hurston

“I am sure it was a woman who first prayed this curse.” - Alice Walker

Scenes from the aftermath of a marriage.

Or: Alexander and Eliza, the Reynolds Post, and everything that came after.

    The Hamiltons move uptown.

Okay so, I've taken a lot of liberties with history for this, I'd say it follows the plot of the musical more closely than anything, with Alexander and Eliza reconciling after the death of Philip and how that leads to their last child, Little Phil. It's a modern AU too, seeing as thats apparently all I can write! Hope you enjoy and forgive my historical inaccuracies, all comments are appreciated!

Affair was a strange word to toss around, old-fashioned. She considered others: tryst made it sound like a one-off. Fling, too casual. Carrying on was a term her mother might have used.

    Summary

She grips the first letter too long, until the flame licks at her fingers. For days she will suck at the swollen, red tips, feeling the blood pushing at the surface of her skin, trapped just beneath. The beat, the melody. The almost-reality of a wound.

She hopes he sees, wishes he couldn’t.

[An exploration of Eliza and Alexander's relationship, from beginning to end. Uses the aftermath of The Reynolds Pamphlet, intertwined with flashbacks, to show how love generates, destroys, and redeems itself, and how it fuels and preserves our histories. Mentioned Hamilton/Laurens and Hamilton/Reynolds; character death re: Laurens & Philip.]

    Summary

In bars across D.C., political minds often joked that Eliza - and occasionally President Washington - was Alexander Hamilton’s impulse control. It was funny mostly because it was true. So when the Secretary of the Treasure had to attend a dinner without his wife, everyone watched with bated breath to see what, exactly, he would do.
