Summary
"They're going to love you!" Says Stede for what must be the fifteenth time today. It does little to reassure Ed, as he puts on his fancy-people clothes in preparation to meet Stedes family.
Ed is already sweating through the pits of his shirt in his nervousness, but he has to do this. It's important to know Stedes family if he and Stede are going to be together. He can't avoid it just because he's afraid Stedes kids won't like him, and will use passive aggression on him. Or that Stede will see Ed sitting in his beautiful house next to his beautiful ex wife and realize that Ed doesn't compare, and he'll leave all over again.

When Mac tries to confront Dennis about how he's treated him and gets met with the rage and fury of a thousand suns, the proverbial straw breaks the camels back. Everything crumbles around him. Charlie shows up to pick up the broken pieces.

"He's been an especially miserable bastard to you. And you've been fucking pining over him whilst he's been so mean. Kinda weird, to sit back and watch it from my point of view, y'know?"
"Yeah?"
"Yeah," Charlie says, and starts to wrap Mac's knuckles up in a dressing. "Like, you're my oldest and kinda best friend, actually, and I've just been on the sidelines watching you fall in love with a total psychopath. Not that I don't like Dennis — I totally do. He's our friend. But it's just been weird, s'all I'm saying. 'Cause I care about you."
Mac blinks a few times as he listens to Charlie's progressively more sincere words, and his chest seizes up with a weird bundle of emotions — emotions he hasn't let himself feel about Charlie in a long time. "You do?"
