Summary
Tommy's been after it all night.
Sol has pulled Tommy onto his lap, but that’s only practical. The lad can’t hear much of anything in this sort of racket and this way Sol can talk right into his ear. Tommy is giggling and shifting in his lap and Sol nuzzles the side of his face, tickles the sliver of skin between his jeans and his shirt. He’s thinking it’s time to take him home and fuck him properly but then Tommy steals his beer and takes a long sip from the bottle, looking at Sol through those lashes.

Summary
You’re too old to be this sentimental, he tells himself, brushing the fabric with extra vigor. What matters is that he act prudently and not risk a good position over a dark brow and a pair of broad shoulders. He is not a ship’s boy anymore, cocky over the surety of his next meal for the first time in his life and the knowledge of his ability to catch a man’s eye. He did not make it this far by indulging in risks or asking for more than was good for him. He hadn’t batted an eye when the admiralty had laughed Crozier’s attempts at securing his lieutenancy out of the room. He is accustomed to wanting what he cannot have.

Summary
Tommy is shifting sleepily, burrowing his face further into Solomon’s armpit. The cold is seeping through the thick wool of the blankets. “I’ll get the fire,” he says sleepily. “Just give me a minute.”
“Don’t shift yourself,” Sol murmurs. “I’ll get it.”
“But you got it yesterday.”
“Aye, well, maybe I want a suck two days in a row.”
“Mm, ‘cause that’s the only time I do it for you, you know.”
“You’re awfully cheeky for a man who gets to stay in bed for a second morning.” Tommy laughs quietly and Solomon pulls him tight for a brief, hard crush, trying to pull all the heat from his sleep-warm body into his own before he jumps from the bed.

Summary
“Why does the captain want us?” Tommy whispers.
“Dunno,” Sol says. He looks unworried. “Cheer up, Tommy.” He sneaks his arm behind where no one else can see and pinches Tommy on the arse. Tommy hides a giggle in his arm and shoves him with his shoulder. He’s no better at keeping a straight face around Sol now than he was back then, for all the practice he’s had. When they had first left Greenhithe Tommy hadn’t been able to look at him without blushing. He was too handsome to do Tommy any good, standing broad-shouldered in his red coat and making Tommy forget what it was that needed doing. He got so used to looking down at the floor around him that it took him a winter to realize Sol was staring back at him, and hotly. So hotly that Tommy hadn’t been terribly surprised when one day Sol had pulled him into the hold and fucked him over a barrel, but he had been surprised after when he had kissed him on the nose and called him sweetheart.

Summary
Some nights Jopson would work around the officers as they took their after-dinner drinks. Edward usually retired early to his bunk, but those nights he liked to stay in the wardroom late, feeling some part of him drawn to the steward’s presence. Being around Jopson filled him with both comfort and disquiet, a contradiction he could not understand but felt overpowered by. When Jopson would catch his eye, his lips would twitch into the smallest smile and he would tilt his head in a minute bow, and Edward would nod back, wondering if he would ever be lucky enough to earn a true smile.
