Summary
The page is tucked into the gilded frame of the auxiliary wardrobe’s mirror. Its edges are crinkled, streaked with the comet-tail smudges of greasepaint and the oil from his own fingers. It’s been folded and unfolded enough that the lines through it are rubbed smooth and thin and well-worn from memorisation. Despite this, great care is taken of it, and every time Ed unfolds it he does it with gentle, uniform precision.
Ed traces his thumb over the rough inked swirl of Stede’s hair, imagines the soft spun-gold curls between his fingers shining better than any treasure he’s looted by far. Stede shone like that, always, a sight better than the filthy lifestyle he decided to pursue. It’s probably better that he left, even if the aching tatters of Ed’s heart beg otherwise.

Steve could ask. He knows this. Within reason, there’s nothing that Bucky isn’t willing to do at least once. Steve could sit Bucky down one night and he could say that he isn’t dissatisfied, per se, he just…needs more. Needs a little something extra. He could look into Bucky’s beautiful blue eyes and ask. But Steve knows he won’t.
Because if there is one thing Steve hates doing, it’s asking.

In his life he’s encountered tulpas and rugaroos, wendigos and Pagan gods, and he’s handled them all without much of a complaint. He’s seen things that normal humans wouldn’t have even considered to be real and fallen asleep later without hesitation.

Summary
The guy on stage is beautiful, his cheekbones high and his face angular in a way that Steve doesn’t often see outside of high-fashion magazine spreads or old Hollywood films. His eyes are blue and heavy-lidded, and his dark hair is pulled into a low bun at the nape of his neck. A few strands fall across his forehead as he raises one arm to the pole in the middle of the stage, then the other, gripping before twisting his body against it in ways that make Steve’s throat go very dry and his sensible slacks go very tight.
