Summary
Mr. Barnes lunges for her and Bucky says, "If you touch her, I'll kill you." And he would. He would, a thousand times over. It's the story of Cain and Able but it's flipped, and Bucky's Cain and Able both. He'd break his father's neck and he means it. Steve fights against upper case G gods; Bucky takes the lower case ones. The ones that spell out Dad if you stare hard enough at them and their letters.
James Barnes ends up in a place called France. In a room that must be hell. Funnily enough, so does Steve. It’s just a place. All sorts of people end up in all sorts of places.

“Here’s how I see it,” the psychiatrist says. “In 2014, you discovered your employer was the old Nazi organization you died to stop. You found out your best friend, who had died in front of you, was actually a POW who had been brainwashed and tortured. Said best friend vanishes after trying to kill you. Two weeks later, you disappear as well. That sounds like someone vulnerable to radicalization.”
Steve closes his eyes, tries to visualize Bucky sitting among the flowers, outside their home. The dogs are playing around him. “I want a lawyer.”

Summary
Canon-corrective treatment of the time post-Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Negates and obviates Civil War. The kind of story we could have gotten, except the people running the MCU are fucking cowards. Oh, and there's a lot of gay sex in this, because the main characters are gay and/or bisexual men who like to have sex with other men. My Russian is not good, but neither is the MCU's so I feel that just enhances the authenticity of the cinematic atmosphere.
This piece was originally titled "Awakening," and thematically refers to the Pushkin poem. I wrote it for some event forever ago, but did not release it in association with said event for reasons who shall remain nameless (yeah you, cat hater). I have attempted to stay as close to canon as absolutely possible, while essentially rewriting the entire core story arcs of Steve, Bucky, and Tony, so...haha...hope you didn't love Civil War. Anyway, I like it. There are some sad bits and happy bits, and I think the characters are faithfully represented. It's kinda longish for a single piece, so I broke it into tiny little snack-sized chapters. Enjoy!
