There’s an amused lilt to the host’s voice which made Adam feel irrational in the best ways, his tired ribcage closing in on itself like moth wings. He lays his phone on the floor and presses his ear to the receiver, as if that allowed him to hear the host clearer, hear him closer, enveloping himself in that soft tone.
“You’re one to talk, you’re awake too”
“You must be new on this show, we never sleep during the witching hour”
(Adam accidentally tunes into a mythology and paranormal radio show at 3 am, he also accidentally falls in love with the voice behind it)

As graduation approached, Ronan’s ambitious, driven, and persistent boyfriend was trying to burn the candle at both ends. Adam was trying to stay on top of his school work, maintain his hours at the library, apply for post-graduate jobs, and be a good boyfriend. Ronan was actively trying to convince Adam to cut down on one of those commitments.
His job at the library, obviously. Ronan didn’t want Adam to cut down on his commitment to being a good boyfriend. Ronan wanted the best for Adam, but he wasn’t selfless.

Ronan watched Adam listen, his eyes slipping closed for a few moments. He knew that Adam did that to better hear the lyrics, his brain trying to block out any extraneous stimuli as he processed the words. He took this time to look his fill, trying to commit the constellations of freckles across Adam’s nose to memory.
Adam opened his eyes, turning to Ronan to already find Ronan looking back. As much as he tried, Ronan was not good about being sneaky with is glances. At this point, he had been caught so many times, that he didn’t even really try to hide it anymore. Adam said something, his lips looking like they had formed Ronan’s name.
Ronan had dreamed of Adam saying his name so often, that he was sure he could read that one word from Adam’s lips.
