Around him are trees he's never seen before, and that is... disconcerting. Mostly because the trees are pink. He knows where he is and he is very lost.
Deep in the Rosewood Forest there is a palace. Within this palace sits a king. The king isn't lost, but he feels like it sometimes. And then a ranger falls out of nowhere and knocks him over.A Wanderer and a King cross paths.

Working in a Private Eye's office means you have to be observant. And after so long being one Juno Steel's secretary, Rita is pretty proud of her observation skills.
She saw how her boss got all droopy and solemn and give-me-a-case-so-I-can-run-away-from-my-feelings when that pretty secret agent fellow got arrested, and she saw his hand go to his pocket when he stared off into space sometimes, and she kept seeing him reading a slip of paper over and over, holding it like the wrong touch will crumble it to dust.
So she took an opportunity when it presented itself, and picked her boss' pocket.

Summary
Spock is completing the unexciting work of observing the Kobayashi Maru exams when all of Starfleet Academy is summoned and sent off on a mission of mercy to assist Vulcan, which has sent out a distress signal. It is a respite from the mundane work of observing cadets taking the Kobayashi Maru exam, since it is a no-win scenario and the outcome never changes. However, he is catapulted into the adventure of a lifetime, alongside Captain Pike and the crew of the new Starfleet flagship, the USS Enterprise.
OR
A re-telling of the Star Trek (2009) movie, and an AU in which Kirk is not part of Starfleet, never beat the Kobayashi Maru, never snuck aboard the Enterprise with McCoy, but yet still played a large part in saving Earth and the Federation from Nero.

Bobby stared at the teenager on the front porch. The kid was soaked from the storm but he wasn't shivering. Blood ran down the front of his white t-shirt as he clutched at his front with both arms. A morbid shadow of a hug. The teen raised his head, raven black locks fell back to reveal his eyes.
His eyes were blue.
They reflected the light like a cat's eye.
He wasn't human.
Bobby raised his shotgun and took a steady aim. The creature with the face of a kid flinched backwards.
