The New York Times had called He Xuan’s second book phenomenal. Ming Yi branches out into the realm of the fantastical in this show-stopping sophomore effort. Kirkus left a starred review on the third.
“You know,” she says. “Every time I finish something I think it’s the best thing I’ve ever written.”
“That’s a good thing,” says Shi Qingxuan, the earnest witch. “It means you’re improving.”
[Acclaimed author He Xuan overcomes writer's block, goes to a fashion show, and gets together with her best friend. Not necessarily in that order.]

“Wei-xiong,” Nie Huaisang whispers after about thirty seconds, “you’re staring.”
Wei Wuxian blinks. “What? No, I’m not.”
“You’re staring.” Nie Huaisang’s fan stabs him in the ribs. “At Lan Wangji. In the middle of the radish aisle.”
When Wei Wuxian's great-godmother leaves him her farm, he jumps at the chance to get away from his stifling life in the city. But the smallest towns hold the largest personalities, and Wei Wuxian soon finds that his new life is much more than just an escape.
(Spoiler: He falls in love.)
On hiatus as the author attempts to get her shit together. Thanks for your patience!

Xie Lian stares out at the water. He wonders if both of them are looking at the same set of lights. Ghost City never sleeps; possibly there is another couple across the river, holding hands, gazing back out at them.
"But I'm not a good person," he says. "I'm just a trash god. The things I've done—is that really okay?"
[Sometimes it's fine to talk to your demon boyfriend about your feelings. Xie Lian stays up all night in discovery of this.]
