It’s all TK types before shoving his phone back in his pocket, before his dad starts making a speech, before he looks over at Nancy who looks like she’s seen a ghost.
He can hear his phone buzz in his pocket but he stands still looking at the back of the ambulance knowing that he’s going to have to clean the blood off all the equipment. He couldn’t stop looking at Nancy on the ride back, the small little splatters that rested on her cheek like a freckle, or the way that he watched her try and stop her hands from shaking, or how irritated her ear was because she kept trying to use her shoulder against it like it would help the ringing stop.

TK is sitting Shiva.
Carlos cooks, Owen finds a Yahrzeit candle and lights it, Nancy covers all the mirrors in the house and Tommy sits next to TK. Silence lays heavily across the house, for someone who had so many happy memories of his mother, he can only think of the bad ones. The ones where he was crying out for help in not so many words, but one’s that only a mother could hear. Because she knew him best, the ugly little parts that no one speaks about because it’s easier but she faced them head on because that’s just what you do for someone you love, isn’t it?

He feels Eddie’s fingers in his hair, it makes Richie open his eyes and Eddie is staring down at him with a look that he doesn’t understand.
“You’re okay, just close your eyes.” Eddie’s whispers, and his fingers feel like magic. He wants to stay like this forever.
“I don’t know why I’m so fucked up.” Richie laughs, his fingers digging into the stuffed animal that doesn’t deserve it. He releases it because it doesn’t feel good and his arms fall at his side and they’re heavy. Everything is just so fucking heavy.

Summary
Richie spent years in the closet, only loving people in the dark too afraid to see what anyone actually looked like. Maybe he was afraid of finding himself, afraid that he might not like what he saw. Whenever he had tried to engage in anything in the past there was a voice that hindered him, it told him that he was dirty and that he didn’t deserve to be loved because he was too loud, too tall, too annoying. He took up too much space.
Richie bites down hard on his lip, watching the way Eddie moves in the kitchen and he looks back at Steve.
“I’m ready to come out.”
(Or, Richie and Eddie are in love and deserve to have a happy ending.)

They sit back on their couch, Amy getting comfortable, placing her feet in Jake’s lap and he just looks at her—she’s not looking at him—and he thinks of how he’s never really had a person before her. He had always used to come home from a long case with a pack of beer and he’d watch Die Hard alone. It never used to be a problem until everyone slowly started to couple off in his friend group, and even then it never really got to him until he got a glimpse of what it feels like to have someone to hang out with and actually like to be around with. It was like slowly over time his partnership with Amy had started to become something more. They were friends then—friends that hung out sometimes after work, and somewhere Jake wanted more than just being friends. He wanted everything that Amy could give him.
