    Summary

"She distrusts high places and open plains. She loves caves, hollows, and shadows; she is fascinated by deep clear pools and flowing water."

As the Smiths song goes: "There is another world / There is a better world / Well, there must be". Sarah Raphael has known this since childhood.

"You know, it wouldn’t kill you to take a night off. Probably.” He quirked his lips. “Though, knowing you, if I’m not keeping you entertained you’ll find something more troublesome to poke your nose into.”

“There’s only so much I can do while on a ship in the middle of open water,” Lila pointed out.

“You’d find a way, Bard. I have faith in that.”

Lila and Alucard continue exploring magic while on their way back to London. They also run into some trouble along the way.

    Summary

Dubiously, Camilla glanced back at the bones. “Fire?” She felt abruptly stupid, repeating Palamedes’ words back to him, so she shook her head frustratedly and elaborated. “Why fire, in particular?”

“Oh, well, to put it simply, fire is elementary, my dear.”

    Camilla looked blank.

“No?” Palamedes looked briefly crestfallen, then coughed awkwardly. “Alright, never mind."

Camilla and Palamedes' relationship is one of my favorites in this series, and this is a wonderful mystery with just the right amount of bittersweet foreshadowing.

    Summary

The poinsettia had been the only plant in the flat that Dani had taken care of herself - she was notoriously nervous about killing Jamie's "babies," as she referred to them - and so, in Jamie's mind, now that Dani was dead, the flower should be dead too. With no one to water it, surely it would give up the ghost eventually.

But it didn't. Jamie never watered it, or trimmed back its newer growth, or moved it away from the drafty window when it got too cold outside. For months - and years, eventually - the damned flower just kept on living, somehow. Just like Jamie.
