“You think someone’s after you. You think if any of us remember you, that we’ll be in danger.”

Peter’s guilty eyes looked up and met Bucky’s, and that was all the confirmation he needed. But the look in his eyes held more than just guilt – there was fear, too.

    And finally Bucky understood.

“Someone is after you,” he said quietly. When Peter didn’t answer, he pressed on. “Who is it? What’s their name? Do we know them? Are they –.”

“I told you, it’s not important!” Peter interrupted. “Whatever happened is now in the past. It doesn’t matter anymore!”

    Summary

Waking up in a stranger's bed is not how superhero Johnny Storm planned on spending the morning after the night before.

    From now on…

    A) No more secret hookups with Peter Parker—he's the last man on earth Johnny'd want to share a room with, never mind a king-size bed.

    B) Maintain a professional persona at all times. After all, he's a photographer for New York's #1 Superhero Bashing Rag and Johnny's perfect tabloid fodder.

    C) Keep friends close but enemies closer. Easier said than done, with She-Hulk away on her honeymoon and Spider-Man avoiding him.

Peter squinted at him. “Is this the bit where you set me on fire?”

“No,” Johnny said. “This is the bit where I ask you if you want to date me, you idiot.”

“Pot-kettle, Torch,” Peter said under his breath. Then, louder, “Well, since I can’t seem to actually stay away from you…”

“I dunno,” Spidey said. “I thought it was a possum.”

    “In your house, Parker?”

    “I AM AN OPTIMIST, ANGEL.”

Then Spidey snapped his head up to Wade, beaming.

    “We’re friends!” he declared.

Wade edged away. He bumped into Louis and couldn’t go any further.

“I think maybe he was just lonely out there,” Spidey continued, gently stroking the hell-beast. The eyes in its fur all closed when he did.

“I,” Wade said, horrified, “Am calling your fucking aunt. Right now.”

    Summary

Aizawa bit back a curse – he should have caught this sooner. His own arms still ached occasionally from being broken at the USJ, and that had only been once.
Midoriya had broken his arms how many times now? At least five times, and each of them had been ugly, complex fractures that spanned from his shoulder to the delicate bones in his hands.

    “How late, exactly?”

Midoriya shrank again, avoiding his teacher’s gaze guiltily. Aizawa’s stomach sank.

“The, uh- the morning of the entrance exam?”

    Fucking-

    Of course it did.

    Summary

The events of Infinity War expose Spider-Man, so Peter has to disappear — so effectively that even Tony doesn’t have a prayer of finding him. So effectively that nobody on the team knows when May Parker dies, leaving Peter to live on the streets.

Two years later, with a new civilian identity, a new alias, and an entire life buried in his wake, the last person Peter's expecting to compromise his secret is one Johnny Storm.

    Bookmarker's Notes

    “May is dead.”

He hates himself for saying it the instant he does. For cheapening her like this, for using her as a weapon in a fight that, in the end, neither of them can ever win. But it’s as brutal as it is effective. It stuns all of the anger out of Tony, pales him so quickly that he looks like less of a man than a ghost.

But for all of Tony’s stillness, Peter can’t seem to keep himself in check; it’s like some floodgate has opened in him now, and there is no filter, nothing to hold him back.

    “She’s gone,” he says, the words wretched, “and I — I called you, I called and I called and I — I tried to — I didn’t want to …”
