    Bookmarker's Notes

I've always loved magical realism (you're probably thinking "This is Harry Potter, obviously its magic") but pause that thought for a moment.

This reads like a soft cashmere blanket on a cool morning towards the end of winter, when spring buds are just peeking their head up. There's a lump in your throat and a slight headache, it's been too many days of being sick and you're finally starting to mend. Someone hands you a warm drink and for a moment everything is quiet and calm and still. You're happy.

That's how I feel when I read most magical realism books. Stories where things happen... just as life happens. Sometimes there are reasons and sometimes you're just a canola plant in a vast field hoping that no one tramples on you.

I love it. I love the softness, and I love how it reminded me of the many things that I love about our world. That there is magic in the quietness of the stars and the strength of the ocean waves. That a soft wind across a field of flowers can make me feel like I'm rooted to the ground and running on air.

An alternative STID thing. With more literature. And esoteric faffing. And sex.

My favorite line: Istau nash-veh tu-gluvau lu du sa'awek il svi'mu'gel'es, tauraun ha'ge-tu hasu [I wish I could show you when you are lonely or in the darkness, the astonishing light of your own being]

It will break you apart and put you back together. It is a lovely characterization of the two and really does not pull punches when it comes to emotions. I am compromised. (and I wouldn't have it any other way)

This is a working title for the series. Suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

I completely tossed two nights of proper sleep and my work ethic out the window to finish this in one sitting. I've never been the kind that could resist a good book, so i suppose it is not a surprise that i ended up reading the whole thing in one go, but there are very few people who have written something that inspires that urge in me. This is not a case of "omg it's so good" (which it is) this is honestly a case of "i know i've read War Games before but how did i not know there were sequels and prequels and why have i forgotten how to blink" as i proceeded to read the whole series.

Here are my highlights: The characterization, the plot, the culture, the intricate story line, the mystery, the emotional connection, THEIR RELATIONSHIP UNF (it's so soft and tentative at times, and deep and sure at others and so like them) and above and beyond all of that Seperis' ability to paint the entire story with just words. I swear I could see the lines of the Enterprise and the story unfold as if it were a high end Sci-fi movie with all the resources and financial backing.

I'm in love. I need an Obliviate so I can read it all again. How am i going to recover from this *stares off into space*

The character development was really good, it was fun seeing his interaction with Coil and interesting to see the story progress from Draco's pov. I think this is the first story I've read where we see Draco's first interactions with Andromeda and Teddy from Draco's perspective. Really fun read.

I'm all happy on the inside now~

It was so good I wished I could read the whole thing for the first time again, and read it again from Harry's pov...though i think its quite obvious what his pov was haha (you know it's a good story when you're sitting there wishing you had some art skills just so you could capture the feelings in the story *sighsigh*)

How I felt: When you learn to love and it turns out to be a little bit more magical than you realized. The best part was that she didn't take the universe and make it bend to muggle rules, she went there and showed me what life in that universe could be like. Harry's pov was wonderful. I do wish there was a bit more about his learning that he is not unwanted but I love how he learned that if you put love into something it will return to you three fold. Admittedly, it also did feel a bit like he learned to love and care for himself as he learned to love and care for the house.

This wasn't magical realism in the way its described in the dictionary, but it made me feel like Harry finally accepted the existence of magic in the rational world, and he started to see it as a sort of "living" thing of its own with feelings, needs and a desire to please.

I really wish I could read more about other traditions *wistful sigh*
