As one reviewer commented: "Vidders Morgan Dawn and Justin Bennett, slash fans, saw S&H's partnership as evidence of two men deeply in love. They used Melissa Etheridge's song, Testify, which powerfully addressed the struggle for gay rights, to illustrate S&H's world and their conflicts in it. They interspersed clips of the show with newsreel footage of actual riots and protests to show us the real world S&H might have worked and lived in. The world they were doing their best, as honest cops, to change for the better. The same world that forced them to keep their love for each other behind closed doors."

    Summary

Twenty/Twenty is a Starsky/Hutch series set in the near future, or maybe I should say set around the near future. It is mostly canon-based, but with some AU aspects. In this series, Bay City is part of Greater LA, along with West Hollywood and some other cities. Bay City is progressive, with equality laws protecting LGBTQ people going back decades. Starsky & Hutch have been lovers since their Academy days, about ten years before the first story in the series, Ghost Car. They are totally open, and have never been otherwise. They are also totally faithful, and have been legally married for about five years. This has made them famous in the gay communities of Bay City, West Hollywood, and Greater LA generally, so their ability to be under-cover cops is greatly reduced. Mostly they deal with hate crimes against minority groups, including the gay community. This is why they work in Bay City rather than WeHo.
