Summary
The year is 2279. World War IV has only been over for six months. The past eight years have taken Claire Beauchamp's parents, her job, her home, her youth, and almost her will to live. Not to mention her husband, and their unborn child. All she has left is a dream, and a vague longing for trees, and groundplants, and stones that are older than the rusty metal streets of Skycity 15 - which its residents call New Oxford. When she unexpectedly gets a chance to visit her Uncle Lamb on Cold Island 12 - the fallout haven that used to be known as the Scottish Highlands - she decides to use the trip to try and climb out of the empty hole that is her current existence. But what she finds there will not only change her life, it will change history itself.

Summary
“Lallybroch may no longer be yer husband’s land in name, but ye’ll always have a place here, Claire. Ye’ll always belong wi’ us.”
Claire smiled at her tearfully. “Thank you, Jenny.”
——
Right before Culloden, Jamie makes Claire promise she will be a mother to Fergus. With the deed of sasine in hand and that promise in her heart, Claire heads back to Lallybroch. There’s just one thing…she didn’t tell Jamie she was pregnant. Now, she is faced with the prospect of never getting to tell him, of having to raise their child without him. She is also faced with the dangerous reality of her high risk pregnancy. But Jamie made a promise: whatever happens, she’d never be alone again. And even without him, Claire can feel him keeping his promise through the love and comfort of his family, helping her bring their child into the world and raising her in his memory.
——
My take on “Jamie doesn’t send Claire back through the stones.” I wanted to somehow prove that even if Jamie had died at Culloden like he’d planned, Claire still would have been happier raising her child with Jamie’s family in the past than she ever would have been in the future with Frank.

Summary
Across their small backyard, Faith and Bree have successfully cornered their father between the budding lavender bush and damp vegetable patch, and subsequently started expounding in detail upon their rapidly-developing design ideas. Each new addition barrels the treehouse from its humble origins of “wooden shack, maybe” to what is shaping up to be a combination laird’s fairy-dwelling pirate-ship-themed mermaid inclusive library-cum-invisible areoplane castle.
Claire decides to take a page out of her husband’s book and bequeath the project’s fate, momentarily, to Divine Grace, instead focusing on William, who has taken his thumb out of his mouth to convey a most solemn and heartfelt suggestion:
"You c'n bring sick people here, Mama, so they'll have us t'play with, when you're makin' 'em not sick again."
