The first story he had ever been taught in school was about the red string of fate.
From a young age, David was adamant that he wasn’t going to let anyone tell him what his life was supposed to be, even when he didn’t have the words for it, he was insistent that nothing and no one would be able to tell him who he was.
Over the years, he had let himself grow into the person he wanted to be. David put so much work into becoming the best version of himself, a lot of the time that meant ignoring any implications of fate and destiny. When the universe wanted him to do one thing, he would always do the opposite.
“You’re right. Well, soon, just message me when you’re free.” This dumb, beautiful boy smiled brightly at David. His eyes were glittering, seemingly full of hope, but he could see that they were hiding some sadness within him and he didn’t like that. Just underneath the surface, Matteo was drowning and David seemed to be the only person who noticed.
“Okay.” David nodded, feeling his cheeks burn, but he didn’t think it’d be noticable.
“C’mon, Luigi,” Jonas said, wrapping an arm around Matteo’s shoulder as he walked away with Abdi and Carlos. David just stood as he watched the three of them walk out of the gym. His heart was beating so quickly, he swore it was going to burst in his chest. He would die right there. David knew who Luigi was finally, and Luigi was the only person that David wanted him to be.

Matteo stared at the collage for hours as he tried to process all the feelings that had bubbled up when he saw it. There was something so gentle about it, it was really just a simple piece of art, why was he so affected by it? He wondered if this what having a soulmate felt like, he also wondered if he was jumping to conclusions regarding his relationship with David. He had so many questions that he wanted answered but he wanted to give David space still. He didn’t want to bombard him with anything. The collage made Matteo full of love though, he wanted to be brave and honest. David had inspired him everyday to want to live more authentically though. David made him want to get better. And knew what this was finally. He had connected two and two a while ago when he just thought about Adam but now it was clear as the sky was blue. And he knew just who to tell first.

Hanna?” His voice cracked, he hadn’t spoken louder than a whisper in days.
There was silence. Silence that Matteo wished would crush him. “Oh.”
“You can’t tell anyone though, only Hans and Jonas know. It’s my thing to tell, and like, I’m ready but I have to be the one to tell people.”
“I won’t, I promise.” Hanna nodded, she had the kindest smile, she had moved closer but didn’t make any moves to touch Matteo.
- Part 9 of It's Just an Email
There was a moment where Matteo felt like he was just going to book it, but he pulled out his phone and opened the gmail app. It was his turn to reply to Adam. After Adam’s last message, after he had texted Jonas, he had spent half the night researching different things. He looked up what ‘cishet’ meant, learning that cis was short for ‘cisgender’, a term that referred to people that cisgender meant people who identified with their assigned gender, people like Matteo. ‘Het’ was short for heterosexual, straight people. They were the default. Matteo found himself deep in a hole after that, on different LGBT resource pages trying to figure out the in’s and out’s of the community that he was going to make himself a part of. Matteo had never been this proactive about anything in his life, but again, Adam had made him want to be a better person.
- Part 8 of It's Just an Email
Matteo x David Love Simon AU inspired by the druck gays only discord
Matteo hovered over the “submit” button, there was a moment where he thought that he shouldn’t post it, he didn’t need to share it with everyone in the school. It didn’t matter that he was collapsing like this, no one else needed to know that one of their classmates was gay, it wasn’t important. There were gay people everywhere, even in their school. It wasn’t a big revolutionary thing to share.
After seeing David play the guitar at a concert he attended with Sara, Matteo thinks he's seen the most beautiful man in the world. But he doesn't expect much to come out of the realization, right up until he walks into Amira’s kitchen a month later to get them a biology study snack and sees David leaning against the counter as he scrolls through something on his phone.
Matteo freezes. David glances up briefly and seems to blink in surprise as well. They’re both sort of staring, and Matteo doesn’t know why David is staring but what he really wants to know is what a famous person is doing in his classmate’s kitchen and also what it’s like to kiss him, but the second question is less relevant considering the major importance of the first one.
“Na,” David finally greets.
“Na,” Matteo stumbles out in response, and then backs out of the room and flees.
lt all sort of goes downhill from there.
