Vi, the angry wild child in search of her sister, meets Caitlyn, the quiet girl with a heavy past, when she is put in a new foster family. They're both orphans, both fucked up in their own way and both desperate for that tiny bit of affection that has been missing from their lives. Something they find in each other.
That is, until Caitlyn turns 18 and is sent into the real world, leaving Vi by herself. Being separated sends both into a self-destructing spiral.
They do not meet again until Vi gets out of prison years later, looking for a job and a path to a better future. She finds it with Vander, who has a soft spot for misfits and gives her a job at his bar.
It just so happens that her lover from her teenage years works at that same bar.

“You don’t mean it,” Caitlyn replied, and Vi’s expression changed from - she didn’t know what. She was too drunk, and too woozy, and too filled with feeling to unpack or process or do anything but react. Vi’s face contorted from something into confusion, hesitation.
“I don’t?” Vi asked, and it was the right thing to say, because it allowed Caitlyn to cling onto her devices and push her narrative. It was the wrong thing to say, because it slowly crushed the hope that had built in Caitlyn’s chest.
“You don’t,” Caitlyn continued, “Vi, you can’t.”
"Why not?" was the reply.
When Vi makes a surprising confession, Caitlyn isn't expecting the avalanche of feelings it causes. But when she thinks back, looks at a lifetime of friendship, she starts to see the blast points that caused it.

After an accident took the lives of almost everyone she loved, Vi has spent years away from Piltover in the military, not by choice. "Unspoken words, like treasures in the mine,
Are valueless until we give them birth"
"The atmosphere in the room changed. The air felt charged with so much energy that the space seemed to vibrate: their palms touched, fingers brushing together, and the whole world lit up as if the sun had just come out from behind storm clouds."
Vi doesn't remember much of her life, and chooses to live in the present. She works all day every day, unsure of what she wants to do with her life, but she's happy... or so she tells herself.
Caitlyn has never known freedom, being trapped under the hawk-like gaze of her mother. In one final act of rebellion, she sneaks out to experience what the outside world is like.
A coffee shop meet-cute that quickly turns into a wicked game of wits, secrets, and a forbidden romance.
Her first time messaging Caitlyn Kiramman on Instagram may as well qualify as a near death experience.
Vi: Nice pic
It's a good thing private messages are, indeed, private because that would be public humiliation in any other context. Execution on sight, even.
Caitlyn: Thanks!* I’m sorry. That was rude, wasn't it?
Vi: ngl I felt that question mark in my soul
Caitlyn: I got a new phone. My fingers aren't quite used to this size.
Vi: can’t say i relate. haven't changed my phone in years
Caitlyn: Your photos are quite the testament to that
Vi: oh please. i don't use instagram as my own professional portfolio
Caitlyn: You should. You've got a nice face.
Vi: how far down did you scroll to even see my face
