Ted touched everyone. He wrapped his arm around Beard’s shoulders, gently jostled Rebecca, and even ruffled Roy’s hair (much to Roy’s chagrin). It wasn’t that unusual, Trent knew—Ted was a coach, and coaches were supposed to do a little adjusting.
But Ted never touched him. During the day they spent together shortly after their tense introduction (“You got a question in there, Trent?” “Yeah. Is this a fucking joke?”), he avoided brushing Trent’s hands over dinner and stepped out of his space on the schoolyard. Trent even caught Ted edging away from him in the cab.
