Would that be her if she was claimed by her father? As if as soon as they knew who her parent was, her name wasn’t just hers anymore. Would her identity from that day forward forever be connected to him? As though her only value as a person was being the daughter of a god she didn’t even know the name of.
Is that why they called it being claimed? Like she was an old sweater you left behind and are getting back at lost and found. Or the luggage you were grabbing after a flight at the airport. Was she now just another tool for her father to use?
Percy Jackson learned she was a demigod after a school year that could be described as perfectly ordinary. So now with no mythological entities to fight, the only monsters she knew were her divine family members.

"I should be happy my 18-year-old sister is getting married right out of high school?"
"Yes, Lucille you should be happy your sister managed to find love... especially in a place like Forks, Washington."
"Wow, ma you ever considered being a travel agent? You're really good at upselling the place.”
Lucy Swan goes to her sister’s wedding, hates her fiancée along with his whole family, and also maybe sorta falls in love with one of them too.
