He tried...but he couldn't even do that right.

Summary
Naruto is very good at breaking all known laws of the universe, especially while worried and/or scared for his precious people. So when the mission to Wave goes more wrong than it should have, Naruto, attempting to heal his teammates, manages to screw Kyuubi's seal up completely, fall onto the border between Seen and Unseen, forge a connection, and nothing will ever be the same again.
By which we mean he accidentally turns himself and his entire team into foxes themselves. Even the silliest of situations, though, have far-reaching consequences, and in the world of ninja, nothing will ever quite be what it seems.

You know they had a seal that could swap body parts? Wildest night of my life,” the boatman’s eyes go distant for a long moment, “...but you kids are too young to hear about that.
“Anyway,” he continues, “our economy’s been a shambles since; maybe gets going for a year or two before it collapses again. No security of stability, so assholes like Gato think they can waltz in here and take charge. Boy, he'd be singing a different tune if the Uzumaki were still around."
Sakura’s eyes widen a bit at that, and even Sasuke looks up. Naruto opens his mouth to say something, but Kakashi puts a firm hand on his shoulder.
“What an… illuminating piece of history,” says Kakashi, “Thank you for sharing.”

(Kiri may have won the battle, but not the war. The island of Uzushio might not be as dead as previously believed.
All Kakashi knows now is that he really should have refused that mission to Wave.

Summary
The first time they meet, Tobirama is nine and the god is drunk.
Tobirama has little background knowledge on the supernatural. Gods and youkai are outlandish and civilian. What he does have - bedtime tales of woman in fox's clothing and dangerous contracts - explain exactly nothing on why a spirit would choose to kill four Water-nin and then prevent Tobirama from sure death. Is it because he's a child? Do spirits like children? Is capriciousness a characteristic of youkai-kin? No answers are forthcoming.
Very belatedly, it occurs to Tobirama the...whatever the man is, might not have killed the Water nin.
The thought hadn't presented itself earlier, even though lack of weaponry should have been clue. He has no scroll or pack or even an extra hair-tie, and the Water-nin were killed with a sharp, long edge. No blood from what should have been arterial spray, on man or girl. But the thought of it, that this - man, creature? - doesn't kill, screams wrong from gut-deep instinct, like touching water and saying it's not wet, like saying fire doesn't burn.

Ootsutsuki Kaguya broke the world. Her descendants worked together to fix it, and defeat her for the last time. They succeeded.
Then the Uchiha Clan woke up.
