Annie balks for a second, before she sucks in a breath and plasters an overly large smile on her face. It’s probably enough to fool her father, but it only has Mikasa pressing her face into the cushion to not burst out laughing. She never imagined that Annie Leonhart could be so cute. Well, she never imagined spending this much time with Annie Leonhart either. This is probably the longest conversation they’ve ever had too, and it is swiftly turning her impression of the blonde on its head. Clearly she just never knew Annie Leonhart, because there is nothing of the cold, distant, and apathetic nature she thought typical of the other girl to be found here.

They’re not really friends, she and Annie. They have friends in common, but that’s pretty much the extent of their relationship. When Armin first introduced them, Mikasa didn’t like Annie much, and. She still doesn’t, really. But. Sometimes Mikasa looks at Annie’s face in profile, the long bangs falling out from her ponytail, eyes distant like she’s staring at something far away, and she wonders what Annie’s thinking about.
When they reach the bus stop down the street, Annie turns towards her. Her cheeks are flushed, the tip of her nose bright pink. The streetlights make her face look softer; Mikasa thinks she almost looks pretty.

No. Not staring. Mikasa was somehow…smoldering, chin tilted down, eyes up, longing. She bit lightly on the edge of her pen, and Annie broke out in a sweat, feeling her visual virginity slipping away, if that was a thing, and though it wasn’t, Annie’s clothes were peeled away bit by bit under Mikasa’s heavy gaze.
Annie sunk in her chair and covered her face. “You don’t need to study me, Mikasa.”
Mikasa pulled the pen from her mouth and pouted. “But you’re so endlessly fascinating. I’m sure I could ace you.”
