She leans into him, eyes closed and smiling with contentment. It warms him from the inside out, the sight of her smile.
“My sunshine,” he whispers, a quiet blasphemy. Should Apollo hear it, his wrath would be immeasurable, but in their quiet sanctuary he feels safe from the prying eyes of the gods.
“My center,” she murmurs back, another quiet admission of adoration.

Summary
Life is a fickle thing, short and intense for many. Too short for most.
But Dream? Dream has all the time in the world. It's a bittersweet feeling, to know you'll outlive everyone around you. To know anyone you love or hate will be gone as time passes and the sound of their laughter or their blood will fade away into the sands of a memory too extensive to keep track of.
Makes one wonder if love is really worth it, in the end.
Or how Dream loves, loses, loves, loses, and wonders why he has to do this, over and over and over again. And if he'll meet anyone that makes the pain worth it.

The thing is. The thing is that Ranboo really doesn’t want to make a nuisance of himself. He’s already burned too many bridges, of late. He doesn’t know what it is that he’s doing wrong, that he keeps having to watch the shock-hurt-anger sequence of betrayal play out in quick succession on the faces of his friends, but surely he’s doing something. You can’t hurt as many people as he has recently without messing up somehow. And the voice that sounds like Dream hadn’t even had to tell him that one – he’d figured it out on his own.
or: Ranboo is sick, and he really doesn't want to bother Techno and Phil about it. Luckily for him, Techno and Phil have other plans.
