There, between two women Lizzie recognized from Gothic Horror last semester was Darcy, stiffly setting out his laptop, notebook and pens. As if he felt the weight of her gaze on him, he looked up suddenly. For a moment the rest of the class seemed to fall away. There was only Darcy, and those infuriating brown eyes staring back at her. Her cheeks felt faintly hot. Someone coughed, some pages were rustled, keyboards tapped, and Darcy abruptly turned back to his books.
Lizzie adjusted the strap of her bag, and set her chin, frowning.
This was going to be an interesting semester.

Needless to say, in all of Jaskier’s grand aspirations for this first gig, she never dreamed of this.
Her ex, scowling at the bar. Geralt’s ex, looking around with cool derision. Two underaged kids hiding in her dressing room. Her opening band looking about two seconds from a fistfight.
And now this.
The love of her life, the Witcher of her dreams, hesitantly approaching. Hands raised as if attempting to placate a wild animal. An awkward, forced smile pasted on her face.

Maybe no one in this family had a good childhood, but they'll be damned if they won't fight for a happily ever after.

And there lay the source of all of her problems: handwritten in a script so neat and precise it could have been printed, Harrowhark Nonagesimus. And everyone knew that Gideon and Harrow hated each other.
So what if they had started taking smoke breaks together? So what if Harrow had helped her fold shirts just last week, in a store she didn’t even work in? So what if Harrow had laughed as the two of them did Jagerbombs at Palamedes’ Halloween party, the glint of her fake fangs flashing invitingly in the orange party lights? They hated each other. The two of them would both work in the mall until one of them inevitably strangled the other with her bare hands, and Gideon wouldn’t have it any other way.
Except that lately, Gideon had started to like Harrow.
Which made that slip of paper a fucking problem.
