Summary
After the brutal betrayal and subsequent death of Jin Guangyao, Lan Xichen is wrought with grief and doubt. Meanwhile, Lan Wangji fiercely patrols and protects the borders of the Cloud Recesses, defending his family in place of worrying for his brother. But when a near-death experience brings him face to face with the god of death, the Yiling Laozu, himself, Lan Wangji becomes haunted by the desire to somehow meet him again.

“Why can’t he come here?” Anders asked. Stupid, stupid. He should’ve been thinking. Of course this was abnormal--Carver didn’t want to be anywhere near him on a good day, hardly spoke a word to him without adding some remark about how dangerous apostates could be. The fact that he was here, alone, making a request and playing nice should’ve clued Anders in that something was wrong. “What’s going on?”
“I think he’s been poisoned,” Carver said, whispering and leaning in.

Byleth loosed one of his rare smiles on Dimitri, his fingers spasming. Byleth showed joy in the smallest fidgets of his hands, in the subtle wrinkles at the corners of his eyes. “Don’t be so hard on yourself,” he signed. “You have wonderful taste. I always enjoyed your looks at Garreg Mach.”
