There were so many things Lucy wanted to know. Things she wanted to ask her. But since she wasn’t brave enough or strong enough for that conversation yet, she could only ask the question immediately on her mind.
“What are you doing?” It came out more irritated than she expected, but it produced the desired effect and got Whistler to give her some much needed space.
“Just…” Whistler removed her hand and stepped away. “Being supportive.”
Her voice was soft and sincere. And it added to the things that currently pissed Lucy off about the whole situation and reminded her that they weren’t people who did this. That Whistler wasn’t a person who did this kind of thing. Not with anyone, and especially not with her.
“Well, stop. It’s weird,” Lucy told her. Because it was.
It was weird, even if it had felt good in the moment.
