A fix-it where Boromir lives - but then everything gets gayer. This follows the events of the Fellowship. It's a super slow burn and the real pairing stuff doesn't get going till The Two Towers (a.k.a three gays and one bisexual on a road trip).

This re-telling is so long it really is like reading the books from Boromir's perspective, and in a unique dry writing style that can be both funny and poetic. Both the ring's influence and the falling in love is handled very subtly and believably, and both Boromir and Aragorn behave like actual grown men, which is surprisingly rare. All Companions minus Frodo and Sam (whom Boromir has little to do) plus Faramir and Denethor are written very well. Has some insights I really enjoyed, such as Frodo putting on the ring because he'd rather have Sauron know where he is than Boromir; Boromir being the one guy who basically thinks "of course I would take Galadriel's deal if I could" (which is entirely the reasonable thing to think); also I feel like Aragorn's indecisiveness is an exaggerated weakness in Boromir's eyes exactly because Boromir himself is so decisive, which bites him in the ass in the end.

What really touched me about this fic is the way Gondor's people are described as treating their fallen Captain-General.

    Summary

Boromir didn't mean to fall in love with the one man who could destabilize his entire country. But Aragorn was there, smiling, waiting, brooding. It wasn't fair, but the Steward's Son was no stranger to life's unfairness. Boromir vowed he would do what was right for his city and his people, even as his world comes crashing down. He'll find a way to navigate his father's demands, the needs of Minas Tirith, and the desires of his heart, even if it kills him.

Maybe the A/B fic with the best writing style that I've ever read, nailing serious, funny, and smutty scenes alike. It re-tells the quest from Boromir's point of view with great attention to detail and involving all companions and Boromir's relationship with them. Boromir is written very well and is a very strong character, which comes a bit at the expense of Aragorn, who is more indecisive and inexperienced than I would say is canon. The fic is very canon compliant but the author takes liberties with the dialogue and extra scenes in the best possible way. I didn't skip a single scene, because even the most frequently covered scenes are here re-told in a new and interesting way. Even combat is awesome to read from Boromir's POV! I think I will actually watch the movies differently next time, which is more than I think I can say of ... any other fic I've read. I also love the thoughtful and effective content warnings for individual chapters. Just overall an instant favorite.

This is really one of the more well written stories in the ship, although every now and then I find myself thinking, "huh? when did that happen?", or not understanding a line of dialogue. There are 10 parts in the series which together make for a long and happy reading. I don't normally do mpreg, but Boromir's son is just a joy, and the actual pregnancy is already many years in the past. The one warning I have with this fic is that Boromir's heavy injuries and the medical treatment for these are a major theme in the base chapters, and both are described often and in detail, which may be very unpleasant for some readers.
