She glared when she caught sight of Leddi, rising to her feet and glaring, the chain at her wrist shining with an unearthly pale light. "What," she hissed, "are you doing here?"
"Saving you," Leddi said.

"It's important to keep up the image," Bib Fortuna had told her one day, petting her lekku as she lounged on the platform by his throne. She smiled blankly up at him, careful to show no disgust, careful to show no intelligence. It could be worse, and she knew it. She was twenty-eight years old, and she was a survivor.
Bib's court was decaying, though, despite his best efforts to pretend everything was fine. Settlements were revolting, raiders were coming in, and Bib wasn't smart enough or strong enough to keep them off.
Nyll needed another plan.

One of the more senior pilots had been picked up by a local Imperial patrol. No sign they knew the pilot was Rebellion, yet. Low security holding, and—if the Rebellion moved fast—a good chance to get their people back.
Davits had mostly been confused by the briefing. But then Captain Antoc Merrick's face had popped up in holodisplay blue.
"It's low enough heat that you can probably run the op," Cracken had said, while Davits stared at the rotating image and his heart started to thud louder in his chest. "Or I was thinking maybe Bren, but I figured I'd give you first refusal."
"It's mine," Davits had said, carefully shoving down any emotion even as his heartbeat turned staccato. "I'll be ready to deploy in an hour."
