    Summary

Another knock interrupted his scrutiny of his–apparently faulty–security system. He huffed out a breath and mentally consigned himself to a cold breakfast. Biting into his toast, Jaskier reached under the table to retrieve the glock he kept there for exactly this possibility.

He checked the chamber as he walked over to his door and glanced through the peephole. Nothing. Guess he’d have to do this the hard way.

Thumbing off the safety, Jaskier yanked the door open and felt a thrill of surprise burn through him at what awaited him.

Geralt of Rivia lay bleeding on his front porch.

“Well, well,” Jaskier purred, leaning against the door jam. “Who do I have to thank for this gift?”

    Summary

“Fine,” Ethan spat, hating his own weakness, his lack of choice. Always, always, there were never any choices worth making. “Fine, I’ll help you get out of the mountains.”

“Wonderful,” Heisenberg said, manic grin falling back into place. He strode out of the room, and Ethan sank back onto the bed.

He should have known he wouldn’t die, but being saved by Heisenberg after their best attempts to kill each other was unexpected by anyone’s standards.

    Summary

“Karl, what the fuck?” he hissed. Had wondered why Karl’d insisted on bringing the hammer.

Karl hefted the thing back up as if it weighed nothing, clumps of snow dropping from it as he brought it back up to rest against his shoulder.

“We’re gonna jog your memory,” he said, grinning. Then he adjusted his grip on the hammer and swung it, forcing Ethan to dodge again.

“If I had known,” Ethan bit out, scrambling out of the way of another blow, “that you were going to pull this shit, I wouldn’t have agreed to come out here.”

“Just trying to help here, Ethan,” Karl laughed, the sound drawing out into guffaws as Ethan cursed at him, rolling away from another blow.

“Oh, fuck you,” Ethan said, keeping his distance as Karl prowled forward.

Karl merely leered at him. “Would be amenable to that, too,” he said.
