This surprisingly solves a lot of things.

Summary
Wei Wuxian hoped that justice would come...but it never did as he and the Wens died miserably from sheer injustice. Nobody helped them, even if his siblings and Lan Wangji saw the truth of the mounds, leaving him unhappy and heartbroken. Whatever happened to making that same promise with him during Lantern Festival?
He prayed hard for justice to come as he blew up the seal to pieces as he plunged to his death, and he found himself back as a six year old child in Yiling, freshly orphaned.
He resolves to have nothing to do with the Sects ever again and decided to live near Wen Qing's family and watch over them.
At the same time, Lan Wangji woke up in his home, gasping in shock, finding himself a child again after succumbing to thirty-three whips...he felt this was a second chance! A second chance to save Wei Ying where he failed the first time! And disappointed with his sect, he refuses to fail again, shutting his heart from his family. It does not help that he returned on the day after his mother's death, too...and ran away from home to find Wei Ying first, and protect him from the world for failing to do so, was his biggest regret that he had willingly died from the whipping.
