    Summary

Jin Zixuan finds himself speaking with Wei Wuxian. Perhaps it's because Jin Zixuan had a little too much to drink that night, perhaps it's because Wei Wuxian is too downtrodden to truly be angry. Whatever the case, the conversation itself... does not go terribly.

    Bookmarker's Notes

There’s a smile there, fleeting and almost too small to see. Jin Zixuan has known Wei Wuxian since even before he’d been old enough to handle his own sword; when the fights between them had been settled by hair pulling and short dunks in any available pond. Despite the familiar words, somehow, it’s still the most un-Wei Wuxian-like expression he’s ever seen of him.

    Summary

Jiang Cheng doesn’t like the feeling of a curse sinking through his skin at the best of times, and now he’s a fucking cat, because Wei Wuxian thinks he’s hilarious. Well, he won’t find it so hilarious when Jiang Cheng changes back and breaks his legs.

“Hello,” Zewu-Jun murmurs, keeping still. Is he trying not to startle him? “My name is Lan Huan. What’s your name?”

What the fuck, Jiang Cheng says, and it comes out as: “Mrrroooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww.”

“That’s a lovely name,” Zewu-Jun says, and good, he’s smiling again. “Would you like to come out? I have-” he falters for a moment. “Do you like – tea?”

Jiang Cheng blinks up at Zewu-Jun for a moment, because – he’s been a cat for less than half an hour, he has no fucking idea whether or not cats can even drink tea. Who fucking knows, he says.

    Summary

Jiāng Chéng finds a little carving tucked into his chair. It's terrible and he loves it. Then, he gets more and some feelings along the way.

    Prompt: Day 2, Ornament

    Edited: 1/26/2020
Mostly grammar and a few spelling changes. Added accents to the names and made Jiāng Chéng about 15% angsty-er. He's got more feelings

    Bookmarker's Notes

His mother would be furious if she knew how he looked for those little carvings now. It certainly wasn’t dignified for a Sect Leader to spend his time carefully checking over his office for gifts. Still, the next one was a passable attempt at one of the boats seen around Yúnmèng’s piers. The first carver had clearly increased in skill, though Jiāng Chéng frowned deeply at a very suspicious stain near the stern. They had nicked themselves while carving. Better proportions but more reckless in the creation. Overeager. The knives used for carving were sharp and they could easily cause serious harm to careless hands. He’d need to remind the juniors to take their studies seriously, but not to forget to be careful learning dangerous skills.

Jiāng Chéng never wanted another to suffer for his happiness, not again.

    Bookmarker's Notes

This is so good, oh my god. The found family, the characterizations, the writing itself, hhhhh. It might be long but you won't want it to end anyway

"Just explain to me, please," Hakoda asked, "why you bought a cabbage? You could have put that on the supply list with the rest of the food."

    The three boys exchanged looks.

"Yeah, that was weird," Toklo said. "Some guys were talking about the Avatar, and Zuko started kind of loudly yelling about him being twelve and a pacifist and more of a menace to the world than a savior, and then this cabbage merchant just kind of…"

"He gave it to me?" Zuko said. "Really enthusiastically?"

"I think he was crying," Panuk said.

    ______

"Sure he doesn't need a coat, too?" The shopkeeper was a tall Earth-blooded woman with a critical gaze. It was currently turned on Zuko's—Toklo's—coat. And the way the sleeves still dangled almost to the end of his fingers.

Hakoda smiled. "Better to hold off on a coat until next winter, with the way he's growing."

The boy gave a start at the words next winter. Then he tucked his face half into the fur lining of his borrowed coat. Not far enough or fast enough to hide his flush. He hadn't been thinking that far ahead, had he? Hadn't pictured himself still with them a year from now, even with his apprenticeship. Hakoda realized, with his own start, that he hadn't pictured the boy anywhere else.

I didn't give my emotions permission to do this to me

    Bookmarker's Notes

“Then we should go,” he murmurs—with his lips still against Wei Ying’s skin. He is thinking about the void in Wei Ying. He cannot stop thinking about the void in Wei Ying. It is all he can do not to reach for it, to try and be sure. He concerns himself with the outer things, with the clothes, with the surface of the body. He wipes Wei Ying’s face for him, and feels the twitch of Wei Ying’s smile under his fingers. Armour. He feels years younger. He feels his age, in his fear and uncertainty and longing. He exists in a world where sometimes something is lost and you do not understand it, or where you think refusing to understand it might change it, or where you sit outside a door and wait and people say he doesn’t understand that she’s gone in hushed whispers, when you do understand, you understand, but you are trying not to.

    Something has been lost.
