Summary
Squinting down at the hiding child, Shang Hua begins to hear the distant shouting of men. At the noise, the child below lets out a soft keening whimper, endeavoring to shove themselves further into the shadows of the barn.
The indistinct murmur of voices clarify into vicious laughter, calls of “That beast!” “Flush him out!” “We’ll teach him a lesson he’ll never forget!” fill the farmstead and the child below chokes back a sob.
Shang Hua swings himself down out of the loft before his brain fully processes the situation. The child’s blue eyes widen with fear but Shang Hua holds a finger to his lips and waves for the kid to come closer “Come on,” he hisses, very aware of the rising voices of the men outside. ‘” I can boost you up to the loft and pull up the ladder.”
Shang Hua's plan to escape his own An-Ding plotline results in the interruption of his favorite Demon Lord's backstory. Can he really just leave the young Mobei-Jun to suffer?

“Hear that, Lan Zhan?” he teases, and has to hold back another yawn. Lan Wangji hums, inquisitive, and Wei Wuxian snuggles closer. “A-Sui has the whole farm thing planned out now. Time to add some pepper plants to our turtles and bunnies, or else she’ll riot.”
It’s a joke, of course– it’s not like they have land for any of those things, let alone pepper plants. He expects Lan Wangji to laugh along; he normally does, when Wei Wuxian jokes nowadays. Or, well, not laugh, but his mouth does that thing instead, where his lips curve and his eyes sparkle and you can just tell he thinks it’s funny too.
Yet another perk of being his husband: Wei Wuxian gets to see that look more often.
Instead, there’s a pause. Then: “Would you like to?”
Wei Wuxian blinks, raising his head to look at him. “Get chili peppers?” he asks, puzzled.
Lan Wangji shakes his head. He says, almost carefully, “The farm.”
(Or: Wangxian get their farm. Eventually.)

Summary
Nie Mingjue’s spirit lingers after his death. He sees everything, all the while unable to interfere or make his presence known in any way, less than a specter of a soul that had once been. It is its own kind torture.
Right until Guanyin Temple, where everything comes to light, and Wei Wuxian finally puts his spirit to rest, finally leaving him to sleep forevermore.
...or so Mingjue had assumed.
