    Bilbo knew as soon as he and Thorin woke up in the morning, grumbling (one of them far more than the other), unwilling to give up the last vestiges of warmth. He saw it in the way Thorin’s eyes tracked him as he got ready, following even more closely than usual. Then they lingered outside their chambers for far too long saying goodbye.
    And so, Bilbo prepared their chambers, had dinner set up, and dressed himself from head to toe in precious metals and gems.
