"Robert heard something crash – in truth there probably was no crashing sound, but a thing or two took a plunge in the universe and rearranged the space time continuum as Robert locked eyes with the man.

Not quite, but a revelation of his own right for sure.
There was a pair of ice blue eyes staring into his; those eyes framed by a beautiful face - slightly smug in a casual, confident sort of way - a nicely trimmed beard, and the most curious little smile.
Robert just stared.
He hadn’t dated a bloke since his early twenties - he’d never been one to favour either gender, but the interesting blokes seemed to have all gone into hiding.Until this one.
This one was definitely interesting.
“Hiya. I’m Aaron,” he said nonchalantly."
Robert is about to go mad over people ruining the perfect day he had planned for his favourite person, but then he meets someone who rattles him in a completely different way.
That someone is intriguing - and not just because he looks devastating in a suit.

Summary
Aaron hasn’t spoken one single word since they got out of the building and into the car. Now, about 20 minutes later, they’re almost back in Emmerdale and Robert keeps glancing over to his boyfriend in the passenger seat. Just checking.
There isn’t much to see unfortunately, because Aaron has turned his head towards the window, avoiding Robert’s eye at all costs, so he shifts his gaze down instead on Aaron’s hands and sees him clenching them so hard the knuckles already turned white. The thumbnail is pressing into the flesh. Robert knows the nails are too short for it to hurt - Aaron started biting them again with today’s appointment approaching - but he reaches over anyway, puts his hand gently on Aaron’s and nudges the thumb with his own.
A second later Aaron’s fingers relax ever so slightly, but he still keeps silently staring outside.
It hurts seeing him like this.
It hurts being helpless.
Even Robert Jacob Sugden runs out of words occasionally. Especially in moments like this.———

Summary

Everything about their affair is basically the exact same, Aaron's just trans now and nobody's particularly bothered.
