    Summary

Our letters have been so grim lately, and after we've both been trying to be funny! Here, I'll describe my day to you so far: this morning I burned my breakfast, so I took the car down to the village and ate a plate of hash with Colm, the barman, and his wife Heather. It was very scandalous when they got married! She's divorced from the owner of the chip shop, whose name I can never remember (he's a very grouchy, unpleasant man - no wonder she left him). She makes good coffee though, and she's a teacher at the school so she knows everyone in town. She caught me up on the gossip and then we walked down to the flower shop together to pick out a bouquet for the bedroom window (her daughter and son-in-law are coming up from Londonderry to visit this week). We picked out some blue peonies, which I think will look very nice. Now, don't you feel like you were here with me?

Letter from Hermione Granger (O.M., Esq.) to Sirius Black (Ld.), written during the summer of 2002 (probably early June, all dates unverified).

    Summary

Let us report events logically and without bias: on MONDAY AFTERNOON, the future HIGHBORN HEIR was witnessed escorting the temptress Muggleborn along the boardwalk, and with her own eyes, this reporter witnessed HAND HOLDING.

On THURSDAY MORNING, the ladder-climbing lady was spotted at a local pub MAKING EYES at His Most Honorable over PANCAKES!

And SATURDAY EVENING found the two UNACCOMPANIED sharing a meal at a Muggle restaurant (something called… "tie food?" The names those Muggles come up with!) SITTING CLOSELY and SPEAKING INTIMATELY. The licentious lady - for interested parties - was dressed in a dark maroon blouse and matching skirt - Muggle in style, naturally - and a pair of beautiful - as it pains this reporter to admit - Amina Arncliffe Spring '99 kitten heels, in off-white. The generous gentleman - TO MATCH! - was wearing a Muggle-style t-shirt proclaiming PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION WORLD TOUR 1985 (how silly! Why on earth would the Prince be touring the entire world with a revolutionary sect? Those Muggles!) and a pair of denim trousers. And yes - to answer the many, many reader response owls - his hair is VERY SHORT INDEED now! (Miss Granger's influence? No doubt!)

    Summary

Sometimes, it was as if he knew. Monica could feel it, see it in his eyes - the intelligence there, the clarity, the light that sometimes caught the lamp the wrong way and made his gaze seem to glow. The night they'd found him - curled up in a bloody pile beneath the oak tree at the foot of their driveway, whimpering in pain, a yellow scarf tied around his neck that looked remarkably similar to one Hermione used to wear - his eyes had followed Monica's every movement in a way that would've seemed threatening, had he not been so hurt. Hermione often spoke of the instant connection she'd felt with Crookshanks, the day she'd happened upon him at the pet shop in Diagon Alley - but Monica had always regarded her daughter's story with a tinge of condescension, thinking it cute but childish. As was usually the case with her daughter, Monica found herself eating her arrogant thoughts later with a healthy side of crow - for this dog, from whence-so-bloody-ever he'd come, was as instantly familiar, and welcome, to Monica as Crookshanks had been to Hermione on that bright morning last summer.
