There on the ground lay a fallen flower. One Tommy had never grown in his yard before so there was no way it had come in. Ranboo hadn’t been by in a while, and even though he often brought flowers, he’d never seen these.
He carefully picked it up to examine it closer, turning it in around calloused fingers. A marigold. Red and swirling yellow petals were dulled and browning at the edges. It looked as unhealthy as he felt.
Something beneath his skin moved as if sensing kinship. Tommy dropped the flower and clutched at his racing heart and Tommy knew it hadn’t been a dream.
There were plants in his body.

What if when they had went back in time Reginald found out that Klaus couldn't die and, in true Hargreeves fashion, decided to test this new ability. Over and over and over again.
Klaus, determined not to let his siblings down again, goes along with it and submits to whatever new tortures Reggie comes up with. Cue concerned siblings and family bonding.

In the end, they should have known better. Klaus Hargreeves can speak to the dead, can conjure and control every dead soul, and he ends the world.
Or,
Klaus' powers get out of hand at a young age. Reginald, the A+ parent, claims him as schizophrenic from there on. Eventually, he breaks.
