After a moment of deliberation, Fray scooped up the cloth rag from the water basin, squeezing out the excess moisture before holding out his hand imperiously, palm upturned.
"Very well," he announced, waiting until the Warrior tamely placed his injured left hand in his, and then angling it critically towards the light. The swollen knuckles were lined up in a purpling row like rejected jewels at a goldsmith's table, each deemed too flawed for further polish. "Let's begin here. Tell me: what did this protect?"

Summary
A "forced vacation" is what Ghost called it when Gary told him that he wasn't going home - that he was going to stay with Ghost and Soap. Gary didn't make it easy on Ghost. He fought it at every angle he could.. but Ghost is too good.
So now Gary's home with his large, caring, compassionate, understanding family, working on their apple orchard. It's the easiest work he's dealt with since he turned 18 and joined the military. But his family life is proving difficult when he realizes how much he's missed since he's been gone. He's learning about his family, their lives, their struggles, and secrets they hold.
And much to Gary's dismay, he's learning things about himself that he's not sure he's ready to know yet. He liked it much better when he was too busy with the task force to think about himself.

Summary
This is a sequel to the first fic. The Barracks is a military-inspired inn based within Hereford, England, where good friends Soap and Ghost work. Ghost is beginning to feel out of place in the civvie world and is struggling to keep occupied when a newbie is hired who ends up providing him with a much needed distraction. Problem is, Ghost's always been better at pushing people away.
Note: these portrayals are based on mw 2019's versions.
