He’d already decided that if they did that, he would return to his previous approach of stalking the Wens from the shadows, fighting them in his own way, on his own.
Instead, he walked into the command tent, Chenqing gripped tightly in his hand, and Nie Mingjue didn’t so much as blink, just said, “Can you do anything but ambushes?” and the next thing he knew, it was three shichen later, he’d shared far more than he’d meant to about his new cultivation style, and there were eight different plans of attack that would greatly increase his effectiveness on the battlefield.
It was – exhilarating, actually.

He watches as a small limping shadow slips through the rotting doors and flattens itself against the wall.
Shang Hua can make out a mop of dark hair falling out of a high horsetail and slim shoulders that shudder and shake. Squinting down at the hiding child, he begins to hear the distant shouting of men. At the noise, the child below lets out a soft keening whimper, endeavoring to shove themselves further into the shadows of the barn.
The indistinct murmur of voices clarify into vicious laughter, calls of “That beast!” “Flush him out!” “We’ll teach him a lesson he’ll never forget!” fill the farmstead and the child below chokes back a sob.
Shang Hua has swung himself down out of the loft before his brain fully processes the situation. The child’s blue eyes widen with fear but Shang Hua holds a finger to his lips and waves for the kid to come closer
“Come on” he hisses, very aware of the rising voices of the men outside. ‘” I can boost you up to the loft and pull up the ladder.” -

Wen Qing relaxes minutely, scrutinizing him. “Then,” she asks, “why are you here, Lan-er-gongzi?”
He thinks of seven children, living here, surrounded by ghosts, fathered — fathered? — by the one who harnesses resentment to command the dead. Children he has named, inexplicably, Lan. Wen Qionglin is a fierce corpse, and yet he apparently talks and thinks and makes his own decisions. The children call him jiujiu. The children climb on his lap and ignore his instructions and say things like “he’s dead” with a careless lilt in their voices.
Whatever the Yiling Patriarch is doing, whatever Wei Wuxian wants, Lan Wangji does not think it is an act of war.
So he does not say, “I am here to neutralize the Yiling Patriarch.”
He does not say, “Sentiment is gathering against you.”
He does not say, “First liberate, second suppress, third eliminate.”
Lying is forbidden, so Lan Wangji bows his head and says something true: “The Lan sect has very recently learned of seven disciples living in Yiling. I have come to attend their education.”

Shang Qinghua tries to come to terms with his feelings for Mobei Jun by cramming them all into a metaphorical pickling jar and letting them ferment so he can avoid thinking about it. Solid strategy! 10/10!
Meanwhile, Mobei Jun is acting sort of strange. What's with all these random gifts? Why are they touring the northern lands? Why is he getting a one-on-one guided visit of the ancestral vaults? Haha, is this a promotion? Is he getting a raise?!
