Zhongli regards him with a long, measured look that has him shivering beneath its intensity. He leans in, and Childe's expecting another kiss — but instead, Zhongli presses tender lips over the shallow cut he left along his jawline. It stings faintly; it's still bleeding, just a little, and Childe's heart races even faster at the sight of Zhongli's lips stained red with his blood before his tongue darts out to lick it away.

So maybe it did make sense that Kaeya would approach him by sneaking into his window in the middle of the night. It was the only way he—and he guessed Kaeya, too—knew how to deal with the time they'd spent apart.

The household is quiet after Crepus’s death, and the funeral is just as dreary.Mourning is very much a human affair, to grieve for someone gone, an idea Kaeya thinks he used to practice as a human—a few centuries ago that is.
Nonetheless, he wears the emotion of sorrow as they all do, careful not to break his character as the supportive second child. Issues commands to the servants when their new master refuses to leave his room, writes back to nobles that send their condolences, ponders to himself when would be a good time to have the confirmation ceremony; people will need to see who the new head of house is, after all.
But the silence has to break, he knows, Kaeya is only waiting for when.
Crepus summons a demon, bound to protect Diluc for life in return for his old soul.
Kaeya takes up the offer only because he's bored.
