For Love of Fan Fiction
Elementary school, middle school, high school, college...you know what all those things had in common for me? Writing was my least favorite subject - without fail. The idea of writing as a hobby wasn't anywhere on my radar.
I only discovered fan fic a few years ago and it was entirely by accident. I chanced upon a story on Tumblr, scoured the web for more stories, and ended up on ff.net. That fandom didn't have many stories at the time and after reading almost all of them I thought...well...why couldn't I write a small story or two?
A million and a half words later...
Somewhere along the way I stumbled into RWBY and latched on. I love Bumblebee. I love White Rose. I still have no idea what I'm doing as a writer, and it seems like every story I'm trying to do something completely different, but that's part of the fun. I'm not a professional. I don't have an editor. I write because I truly enjoy it.
Most of you may not know this, but I'm an overly sensitive person. The idea of posting anything on the internet for others to read is...scary, to be honest. On top of that, my writing confidence is minimal, to put it nicely. After the first story I posted I could have easily given up and gone back to my pre-writing life - where I didn't spend much of my free time typing random notes into my computer.
Thankfully that didn't happen. Thanks to you - the wonderful readers who go out of their way to give feedback - I thought that maybe I should try writing another story. And after that, another one. Today my computer is filled with stories that I can only dream of having the time to finish. Even if it makes me worry to post them online, I can't wait for them to be done. I can't wait to hear what you have to say. I can't wait to strike up conversations with you about characters we both love.
