    Summary

Richie grabs the edge of the polaroid and slides it out from underneath the comic books. It’s a picture of a group of kids, all sitting on a porch in someone’s backyard. He recognizes his tween self pretty quickly — stupid hair, enormous glasses that made him look constantly bug-eyed. He’s really hamming it up for the camera, grinning with his arm slung around some dark-haired kid with a cast on his arm. He can’t remember who the kid is, who any of these kids are, but the way they’re all huddled together and smiling like they really give a shit about each other… he doesn’t remember ever having friends like this.

“Who the fuck are you,” he whispers at the kids in the picture. He flips it over, and sees his own childish chicken-scratch handwriting on the back.

Bill, Bev, Ben, Eddie, ME!, Stan, & Mike. September 1989!

    --

Or, 25-year-old Richie Tozier doesn't know why he can't remember his childhood, or why he has nightmares about yellow eyes looming in the dark. Then he finds an old photo of friends he can't remember, and things start to change. A "what if Richie and Eddie found each other again during the 27 years" fic.

"I'm in a bit of a pickle, my dear," Aziraphale said over the telephone.

Crowley was seized by immediate fury. Not even a decade, and they're at it again, he thought viciously. You'd think they'd be embarrassed enough to stay out of things for a few centuries at least, after botching the apocalypse like that.

"Who's done something to you?" hissed Crowley.

"Ah," said Aziraphale, in the quiet tone of someone who didn't mean to learn someone else's secrets and was mildly sheepish about it. "This crossword clue -- I'm stuck -- 1980s French fencer, thought you might know. It's eight letters and has a Q in it."

"Trinquet," Crowley snapped, in the tone of someone who had revealed one of his secrets and was annoyed about it.

The promise feels simultaneously like some sacred quest and something too hollow. Hermann doesn’t even have a concept of what home could mean to Newt in the current context. He’s certainly not sure if it’s going to be overwhelmingly difficult to achieve. Part of him just wants to get to the hurdle of getting Newt back, they can work on the rest together. They can struggle when it’s the two of them together. They always made more sense as a pair than on their own.

    Summary

The problem with Hermann—aside from the obvious factor of their being Mortal Enemies, but both he and Newt tended to gloss over that—was that he was nowhere near as loose with following the Rules as Newt, nowhere near as... lax in respecting authority. (Though, Newt supposed, that was for the better; Newt’s unsquashable rebellious streak was what led him to Fall, after all.) Hermann was too fixated on impressing the Higher-Ups and getting pats on the head for it. And normally, Newt would put up with it, maybe prod a bit of fun at it and Hermann’s father, who was definitely in the running for Absentee Parent of Existence Award, but this was the end of the world they were talking about here. “Dude,” he said, empathetically. “Come on.”

Hermann fidgeted some more. Then he began to visibly Fret.

“I know you’d miss me,” Newt said.
